SambaXP 2010

Language:
English Ambitious Ace of Spades

  • May 5th - 7th, 2010 (Gottingen, Germany)

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

sambaxp_2010_ambitious_ace_of_spades.pngFLOSS developers working on closed source solutions replacement are in many aspects similar to magicians. First, they both try to understand and reproduce existing routines. Finally when the secret is revealed, they try to figure out a way to improve or revolutionize it and take it to the next level.

This parallel will be used along the talk to illustrate OpenChange progresses since last SambaXP: MAPI development libraries and OpenChange server status, impact of Exchange documentation on development, etc..

SambaXP 2009

Language: EnglishWARP Core of OpenChange Server

  • April 22th - 24th, 2009 (Gottingen, Germany)

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

sambaxp_2009_wap_core.pngIf you want to fight the Borg, you better have a good Warp engine. Similarly, competing with Microsoft Exchange requires OpenChange to develop a robust, reliable and extensible server.

This presentation first provides a quick status update on OpenChange and its MAPI library. It next focuses on OpenChange server design and architecture. The talk finally concludes with a live demonstration of the server running with Microsoft Outlook and what can be expected from OpenChange within next months.

  • March 31st - April 2nd, 2009 (Paris, France)

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

Linux Conference Australia 2009

Language: English OpenChange and KDE - bridging to Microsoft Exchange

  • 21st - 24th January 2009 (Hobart, Australia)

  • Author: Brad Hards

Abstract:

linuxconfau.pngOnce upon a time, in a land called KDE, there lived a bunch of happy hackers. Every so often, they looked over to the neighbouring lands of the Evil Empire, and saw the masses who would come to the free and open lands of KDE, if only the masses could unshackle themselves from the chains of Microsoft Exchange.

Then one day, a couple of hackers from the lands of KDE found a small enclave of hackers in a land called OpenChange. OpenChange was close to the kingdom of Samba, where good king Tridge presided. Amongst the fine works of OpenChange and Samba, there was a big sign saying "Exchange compatibility this way". And the KDE hackers rejoiced, for it was good (if a little rough around the edges).

Come along to:

  • understand how the introduction of Akonadi in KDE 4.1 enables the easy development of Groupware clients, without having to write all that tricky network code yourself;
  • find out how OpenChange libraries allow access to Exchange servers using native protocols ("as seen in Outlook");
  • and see how Akonadi and OpenChange are used together to allow KDE4 groupware clients to access Exchange servers.

SambaXP 2008

Language: English When OpenChange assimilates the Borg

  • April 17th - 18th, 2008 (Gottingen, Germany)

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

sambaxp_2008.pngThe OpenChange MAPI client library 1.0 baptised BORG will soon be released and will provide full-features and complete access to Microsoft Exchange Server from UNIX platforms: email, calendar, contacts, address book, tasks, notes or public folders. This library has been a long time coming but is finally on the right track, feature complete, and intended to be used in production environments. The first part of the presentation will provide an overview of existing libmapi applications - graphical or console based - and focuses on visual demonstrations.

However OpenChange does not only supply client-side MAPI capabilities. The server side is also in progress and aims to provide a transparent Exchange server replacement based upon Samba4. The last part of this demonstration will focus on OpenChange server design, how it uses Samba4 infrastructure and its current development status.

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

  • September 2nd - 5th, 2007 (Cambridge, UK)

  • Author: Julien Kerihuel

Abstract:

lce2007.pngThe OpenChange MAPI library aims to provide an Open Source implementation of Microsoft Exchange protocols under unix/linux. Firstly we provide a general overview of MAPI internals and the OpenChange MAPI library architecture. Then we focus on real-world programming examples and detail the internals of two sample applications based on libmapi, fetching Exchange e-mails and calendar items from a Linux terminal. Finally we provide an overview of graphical and console Linux desktop applications using OpenChange.
